ITER(International Thermonuclear experimental Reactor) Korea Project
ITER(International Thermonuclear experimental Reactor) Korea Project
Directorate for National Strategic R&D Programs
Seven parties (Korea, EU, United States, Japan, China, India, Russia) are jointly participating in the construction and operation of ITER to secure original technology and produce core experts for commercializing nuclear fusion energy by the 2050s
* ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor)
Research areas: Korea’s role in developing ITER is the production and procurement of 9 key devices*; to this end, Korean companies have been charged with the production of such devices to ensure the strategic acquisition of core nuclear fusion technology
* Superconductor, main body of vacuum container, vacuum container port, blanket shielding block, assembly equipment, thermal cutout, power supply, tritium storage and supply system, IVC busbar, diagnostic devices, etc.
Eligibility: ITER Korea Office
Summary: Support the construction of ITER to obtain a large volume of clean energy in the future
Construction period: Total of 18 years (Oct. 2007–Dec. 2025)
Funding: KRW 30 million – 50 billion (USD 27 thousand – 45.46 million*) per project per year
* approximation based on exchange rate of 1 USD = 1,100 KRW
